A few hours earlier, another hippo mauled a Kenyan fisherman to death with its tusks in the same area, a few kilometers from where the Chinese tourists were attacked, police said, the Associated Press reports.
According to the police, the hippo bit the fisherman in the chest area, and the injuries were so serious that he expired a few minutes after being pulled out of the lake.
Six people have died in hippo attacks around Lake Naivasha since the beginning of the year.
The Kenya Wildlife Service states that the circumstances of the attack on the Chinese are not clear, since tourists are mostly accompanied by guards, and adds that both civilians and rangers have died in numerous attacks by hippos and buffalo.
